Month of September

We have hit the ground running in ESOL and are getting into our routine with our schedule.

In Kindergarten, we are working on letters, sounds and sight words. With our letters, we come up with vocabulary and practice writing the letters. We use Zoo Phonics to practice our sounds. Zoo Phonics is a fun activity where we make use motions that go along with the sounds so that we can remember them better - the students love it! We will be working hard on our sight words and start using rice to spell our words, as well as play doh to make the letters of our words.

In 1st grade, we are working on reading and have started word families to help us become more automatic and fluent in our reading.

In 2nd grade, we are working on narrative writing and how to tell a story from our life. We are working on using transition words, as well as editing and revising to make our story better.

In 3rd and 4th grade, we are using READ 180. We have started workshop 4 on bullying and the children seemed very engaged with the introduction yesterday.

I have enjoyed these past few weeks getting to know your children. It's going to be a great year!
